Every year is the same.
The United Nations reminds us.
They remind us to be aware of Disaster Risk Reduction.

Which disasters are hard to avoid or only halfway manageable in the movies?
Meteors – Bruce Willis solved the problem in the movie Armageddon.
Earthquakes – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson saved his daughter in San Andreas.Volcanic eruptions – Tommy Lee Jones was our hero in Volcano.

But our heroes are only in the movies.
How about the real world?

Where can you become a hero? 
War.
Nuclear accidents.
Viruses and diseases.
Drought and hunger.
Flooding.

You say, how can I avoid a war?
How a nuclear accident?
How can I help make sure everyone has enough to eat?

Okay, you are right, your powers may not be strong enough.
But why don’t you use your mind, your knowledge, your power to do something where you can contribute?

Isn’t it better to be awake than to sleep?
Isn’t it better to do what can be done instead of waiting until the end of the world comes upon you?

“We need to be concerned about preventing flood damage, not repairing damage after a flood.

This is what the UN is trying to tell us.
Be awake.
Be aware.

Be a part of our mission in Asia by protecting 10,000 buildings against the damage of flooding before 2030.
Let’s take action.

My intuition tells me that you are capable of doing what is necessary.
Start with one small step.
