What has Caused the Flash Floods in Bosnia?

Flash floods in Bosnia

After days of untimely warm weather, downpours started on the evening of Nov. 4, 2021, prompting flash floods in Bosnia.

Damage, destruction, evacuations, and power cuts — these were the main repercussions of the flash flooding. For you to avoid suffering from the same situation, let this blog elaborate on them.

Repercussions of Flash Floods in Bosnia

Damage and Destruction

Local TV station N1 reported a farm owner failed to save his whole sheep stock in Trnovo, a town in the south of Sarajevo. Evidently, the flash flooding damaged agricultural farms and businesses.

On Nov. 6, in the city of Zenica and the towns of Breza, Visoko, and Kakanj, the rising Bosnia river brought about the destruction of vehicles. In fact, buildings near the riverbank were as well on the verge of destruction due to the flood-causing heavy rain.

Evacuations

Flash floods in Bosnia caused a number of people to leave their houses on the outskirts of Sarajevo on Nov. 5. Among the homes they evacuated were the ones near the rising rivers, namely, Bosnia, Tilava and Zeljeznica.

Furthermore, hospitals, unfortunately, became prone to running out of oxygen cylinders, because the flash floods affected also the only medical oxygen-refilling plant in Bosnia. Hence, people had to evacuate it.

We could not save the equipment. We had to save lives. Water came fast like a tsunami and it is fortunate that the Civil Protection was there with rescue boats.

Power Cuts

Heavy rain inundated parts of Bosnia and left most of the capital, Serojova, with power outages on Nov. 6. As a matter of fact, a flooded substation on the outskirts of the city triggered the loss of electricity.

According to the power transmission company, Elektroprijenos, the continuous downpour was making it impossible to reroute power. Consequently, only by evening, the electricity came back on.

With such repercussions, can we turn our backs on flash floods? What if there’s a solution that we could turn to?

Turn to This Solution

A manufacturing plant is protected by ANHAMM, so floodwaters can’t enter.

This is surprising but true.

We can actually mitigate repercussions such as damage, destruction, and evacuations, and be able to protect ourselves and properties from dangerous floods.

In case something like flash floods in Bosnia causes power outages, protection is still feasible. Why? Because this solution, Anhamm Automatic Flood Barrier®, that we could turn to can work without electricity.

To activate, ANHAMM needs the floodwater itself. It in fact works by buoyancy (Archimedes Principle), which means that the buoyant force of the floodwaters activates the barrier, pushing it up. Therefore, we could just let it do all the protection we and our properties need.

We can actually mitigate repercussions such as damage, destruction, and evacuations, and be able to protect ourselves and properties from dangerous floods.

Durability and effectiveness? Indeed, ANHAMM is made of stainless steel and it is leak-proof with the use of special gaskets. Certainly, it won’t lose its ability to withstand floods or flash floods even for 100 years.
