The COVID Pandemic has infected more than 4 million people worldwide and millions more have been urged back into their homes or worse, in hospitals. Those who have been restricted to their homes have been in quarantine for more than 1 month. Needless to say, people are very excited to get out of their homes and out of this pandemic. Unfortunately no end is in sight and worse, experts say we will feel the effects for the years to come. With all the attention to the coronavirus, many more could be suffering from COVID Tunnel Vision.

COVID Tunnel Vision is the mistake of concentrating too much resources on the current COVID pandemic that we forget the other inevitable problems we have to face. The world has been so focused on COVID response efforts that there are annual dangers that are being overlooked, underreported, and deprioritized.

We must take a look at the bigger picture and remember that the seasons will continue. If you have been uninfected, spending the summer constrained in your home would have been relatively easy. The rainy season will not be as kind, and with no preparations made it could be worse than the usual.

Let us add more context to this situation. To augment their resources, some countries are scrambling for international relief and others are being plunged further into debt. Meanwhile, flooding remains as the most occurring natural disaster and affects the most people in Asia. All efforts are being concentrated on the COVID pandemic. Will there be enough for future disaster response?
