Is it your first time to hear that there is a modern solution to flooding? Do you intend to get one, but you are not yet aware of the basics? Don’t worry, if you don’t know anything about this, we’ll keep you in the loop. In this week’s blog, I will show you the characteristics of an ideal flood protection barrier.
What are these 5 Features?
1. Sturdy Material
WHAT IS AN IDEAL FLOOD BARRIER MADE OF?
An ideal flood barrier is made of stainless steel, hot-dipped galvanized steel, or lightweight marine-grade aluminum. A barrier that contains any of such materials is non-corrosive and can withstand impacts from debris. Therefore, it is sturdy enough to last long.
2. Durable Seal
HOW IS IT SEALED?
Certainly, seals play a pivotal role in making sure that floodwaters cannot enter the property. There is no leak in flood barriers, because seals such as Polyethylene (PE) Membrane, Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), or Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) secure them.
An ideal barrier should have highly flexible and durable seals.
The three aforementioned seals are all highly flexible and durable. PE membranes are durable compared to standard plastic foils, are weather resistant, and are environmentally friendly because they can be reused. EPDM is water, weather, and electricity resistant, and it is stable in high and low temperatures. Lastly, PTFE has distinct advantages including corrosion resistance, massive temperature range capabilities, and almost unlimited shelf life.
3. Easy Operation
HOW DOES IT WORK?
An ideal flood barrier should be easy to operate whether it is manual or automatic.
Although manual barriers do not work on their own, it is just very easy to deploy them because they are lightweight. As a result, they can quickly respond to flooding situations.
Whatever the mode of operation is, it should be easy peasy to deploy an ideal flood barrier.
If manual barriers are easy enough to operate, automatic ones are unquestionably effortless! There are three categories of automatic flood barriers: 1) fully-automatic, 2) semi-automatic, and 3) passive.
Fully automatic barriers operate through water sensors (e.g., RS Drop-Down Flood Barriers, RS Flip-Up Flood Barriers).
Semi-automatic flood barriers are activated with a smartphone or a dead man’s switch. You just need to turn a key or tap a button, and they’re good to go, (e.g., RS Drop-Down Flood Barriers, RS Pivot-Hinged Barrier).
Lastly, passive flood barriers work by buoyancy (Archimedes Principle). In other words, you just allow the floodwaters to activate the barriers (e.g., Anhamm Automatic Flood Barriers, Self-Closing Flood Barriers (SCFB®)).
Whichever flood barrier you choose, one thing for sure: you will not have a hard time deploying them.
4. Excellent Quality
WHERE IS IT MADE? WHAT CAN IT WITHSTAND?
It is the European Union (EU) that produces an ideal flood barrier.
Did you know that the technology behind innovative mobile phones and the World Wide Web (WWW) that we relish today is European? Let us also be aware that we owe to the Europeans the invention of big and strong boats used in sea navigation, submarine, the celsius thermometer, heart rate monitor, telescope, printing press, internal combustion engine, parachute, bulletproof vest, and even the spacesuit that Neil Armstrong used to land on the moon. Well, now that you know all of that, I assume that you know how much you can trust products made in the EU.
The European Union has been an institution in producing quality products. Flood protection system coming from the EU is surely of high quality too!
The EU is strict on implementing its standards on both its materials and fabrication process so it is safe to say that an ideal flood barrier from the EU is of unquestionable quality.
5. Reassuring Lifespan
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
As an ideal barrier is designed to last for a long time, it can flood-protect you for up to 50 years. Also, with quality maintenance service, you can extend the service life of the barrier to 100 years. Rest assured that your great, great, great, great, grandchildren will be able to use it!
A Flood Protection Barrier That Has It All
If a barrier possesses all the above-mentioned characteristics, isn’t it really an ideal flood protection barrier? It definitely is!
